Over the years, the compact SUV Hyundai Tucson has become more and more popular. Although sales and performance may not have started off well, to many, Hyundai seems to now know exactly what small SUV buyers want. However, like most vehicles, the Hyundai Tucson isn’t perfect. In this article, we will go over some of the most common Hyundai Tucson problems we see in our shop. Our goal is not to sway you away from a Tucson (we love them!), but rather to inform you about the main Hyundai Tucson issues owners experience so you can make a well-educated and sound purchase decision.
Speed Sensor
Is your check engine light on, and/or does your vehicle seem to be shifting erratically? Then you might have a malfunctioning speed sensor. Although this sensor is located in your transmission, if you are experiencing the mentioned symptoms, it’s likely just the sensor – which is much cheaper and easier to replace.
Delayed Acceleration
Does your acceleration feel off or do you feel like there is a delay in your attempt to accelerate quickly? Then you might be experiencing an acceleration issue due to a software glitch. For this Hyundai Tucson issue, we recommend visiting your local dealer or auto shop to get assistance with fixing it.
EVAP Temp Sensor
Did your air conditioning system suddenly stop working or is it just not working properly? What might be happening is your vehicle’s computer system isn’t getting the correct reading from the temperature sensor, which is what is causing the AC not to work properly. To fix this common Hyundai Tucson issue, you will need to have the sensor replaced.
Radio Software Glitch
Although you can experience several different symptoms, for the most part, if your radio is not working properly or no sound is coming out of the radio/speakers, it is probably a software glitch. If you think you may be having a radio software glitch, to address it, you will have to do a hard reset of the system by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery. Once disconnected, wait for at least 15 minutes, then reconnect the battery. If you continue to have issues, we recommend taking your vehicle to your local repair shop for further inspection.
Faulty Airbag Control Module
The airbag control module is what controls the deployment of the airbags in the event of an accident. Unfortunately, given the main symptom of this is that the airbag may not deploy as intended during an accident, you usually don’t know your airbag control module isn’t working until it’s too late. Thankfully, although still frequently reported, this Hyundai Tucson problem isn’t as common. Regardless, next time you are in an auto shop, there is no harm in having it looked at just in case.
Now that you are up to speed on the most common Hyundai Tucson problems you may experience, you will hopefully be able to make a much sounder decision on whether or not it is the right compact SUV for you. Thankfully, most modern cars are pretty reliable, so despite vehicles not being perfect, as long as you follow the recommended maintenance the vehicle you choose should give you little to no issues.
