Most Common Subaru Crosstrek Problems

In terms of reliability, Subaru vehicles tend to score well across the board, and the Subaru Crosstrek is no exception. If you are in the market for a new or used Crosstrek, it is important to take note of the potential issues you may encounter with your vehicle.

While the Crosstrek is well-known for its reliability, it does have some complaints from drivers that you should be aware of. Check out our list of the most commonly reported Subaru Crosstrek problems below. 

Transmission Issues

Subaru Crosstrek manual transmission problems top the list of most common issues. Drivers report that the Crosstrek, specifically the model with manual transmission, takes a significant amount of time to get up to 60mph. In fact, the 2020 model takes 9 seconds to go from 0 to 60.

Subaru addressed this issue in the 2021 Crosstrek and replaced the 2.0 liter engine with a 2.5 liter version. This 2.5 liter engine is also found in the Forrester, Outback, and Legacy. It helps to resolve the noted Subaru Crosstrek transmission problems and gives the car a little more umph. 

Windshield Problems

Another item that tops the list of most common Subaru Crosstrek issues is related to the windshield. Drivers have reported that the windshield cracks easily. This is a common issue that is reported across a variety of vehicles and is not just specific to Subaru. However, it’s important to note that the Eyesight technology (which is a safety feature used to monitor traffic) is located within the windshield and makes it much more expensive to replace.

Steering/Handling

Earlier models of the Crosstrek are known to have some handling and steering issues. This is most apparent when driving in icy/snowy weather conditions, which could be very dangerous. 

Drivers of the 2013 model have noted that the vehicle seems to fishtail easily in these types of weather conditions. Other drivers have reported that the steering wheel locked while driving, but this does not appear to be a common issue. Additionally, some drivers claim that the car pulls to one side when turning, but again this isn’t widely reported.

Interior Complaints

Some drivers have reported a variety of issues with the interior of the vehicle. Typically, these Subaru Crosstrek problems are less of problems and more of complaints. A handful of drivers have complained that the seat is uncomfortable. Other drivers have complained that the key easily gets stuck in the ignition. While these issues are notable, they aren’t as concerning from a safety perspective.

Battery Issues

If you’re concerned with Subaru Crosstrek battery problems, you can rest assured that this issue does not appear to be present in the Crosstrek. Unfortunately, there are other Subaru models that are experiencing battery issues.

Recent models of the Outback and Ascent reportedly have an issue with the battery dying easily and often. This has led to drivers having to jump their vehicles and, in some cases, replace their battery. While this is certainly a frustrating issue for some Subaru models, it doesn’t seem to affect the Crosstrek models.
